Repo man

I just watched this a couple of days ago. For the most part I liked it, but i only have one question: What the hell is going on in there! Towards the end i was confused, but just went along for the ride. So like I said good movie, but confusing as hell. Did anyone else who saw this feel the same way?

Great movie! I think the alien bodies in the trunk of the car are just a plot device to create some craziness and surrealism, otherwise you have a pretty sad, violent film about a bunch of guys kicking the crap out of each other repoing cars. Have you ever lived in LA? Pretty wild town. Sometimes you really do think anything can happen. I wouldn't put too much stock in thinking about the ending. It's just supposed to be funny. I mean, if you think about it, it's really a sci-fi film without being overly obvious it is. Cross-genre.

What I really liked about it was the fact that it didn't take itself seriously. If it was any other movie it would have tried for coherence and, in the process, lost most of it's charm. I can't think of many movies, especially american films, where it's oddness equals charm.

We've recently been on an 80s-fest at our house. There was a streak of movies similar to Repo Man made then--stylish and odd, with beautiful surfaces and plots that were mostly also decorative.

If you liked Repo Man and are in the mood for more high-gloss surrealism, try Diva, After Hours, or maybe even Desperately Seeking Susan, which is probably the most conventional, but made me realize that Madonna was a half decent actress.

If you like the violent punk edge of Repo Man, and don't mind if it makes no fucking sense at all, try Alan Cox's (same director) _Straight to Hell_--a crappy movie which probably really does suck, but has Courtney Love in an early role, and also Shane McGowan and Joe Strummer.
        It's an allstar suckfest!

Also among the cast of Straight to Hell were several members of the cast of the cast of the 1989 remake of Caligari, called Dr. Caligari (add to your surreal '80s horror list), directed by Steven Sayadian aka Rinse Dream, aka the guy responsible for Cafe Flesh, my favorite art porn movie of all time.

Huh. I should make an '80s thread, I guess....

I dunno been thinking of getting a lot of odd and cult 80's movies. Been wanting to watch the hunger aganin. Though I thought it was kind over rated, I like that it was an original take on the whole vampire genre. Also it has David Bowie and that ain't bad. Well at the time i saw it i thought it was only original take on vampires. I hadn't heard of Martin at the time. I also though of sitting all of real genius, but I'm not sure if that would be considered a cult film. It's good though.
